Each fortnight we choose one freely-available short story we love to share and discuss online. This week, it's Anton Chekov's 'Polinka'. For ages 17+.

The (now online) book club for readers who don't always have time to read. Have you wanted to be part of a book club but don't always have the time or patience to finish a whole book? Hesitant to commit to a new author you’re not sure you’ll like? The Short Story Club is the club for you. Commitment is low, enjoyment is high, and you’re sure to discover some new authors and styles to explore.

Anton Chekov

Anton Chekov (1980-1904) was renowned for his plays and short fiction. Born in Russia, he was a medical doctor who wrote classics such as The Cherry Orchard around his work. His innovations are said to have informed the modern story.

Polinka 

In Polinka Chekov explores love, sadness, confusion and grief through his brief story of a love triangle. Taken from his The Collected Short Stories collection the story is narrated in the third person by an unnamed narrator

Bargoonga Nganjin, North Fitzroy Library offers a range of programs and services to stimulate lifelong learning and creativity for adults, young people and children alike.

These include digital literacy programs, regular children’s storytime sessions, creative programs and events, including author talks, panel discussions, films and music performances as well as events in community languages.

The library has a range of flexible learning spaces, which can be used for quiet study or group discussions.
